Counselling provides you with a safe space to explore you thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can help you with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, grief, self-worth, and relationship conflict. Counselling will help you to find coping strategies for these issues, and increase your confidence, self-esteem, clarity, and motivation.
Life can be difficult and sometimes we just need a little help.
We’re all affected by the stories we tell ourselves, so let me help you write a better narrative for your life. My approach is holistic and open-minded, working to uncover the underlying issues and planning practical ways to address them. Each person is unique so every session is personalised to your needs and specific situation.
01 Initial meeting
In our first session we’ll discuss where you’re at, what you’d like to change, and where you want to end up. Then if you are happy with the session and feel we are a good fit, we book in the next session. All sessions are 60 minutes and can be held in person at my Wellington CBD office, online, or by phone.
02 We begin the work
In the second to fourth sessions (the number of sessions varies depending on the depth and scope of issues you want to cover) we look at different options and ‘try on’ different therapeutic techniques and strategies. The sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly depending on your preference. In between meetings you get to try out the strategies in real life to see what does and doesn’t work for you.
03 Following up
When you’re happy with the plan we’ve developed and the progress you are making we schedule one or two follow-up sessions. These are invaluable for accountability purposes to make sure you’re still on track, and allow us to fine-tune strategies and deal with any unexpected obstacles.
Counselling provides people with a safe space to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It’s a talking therapy where a trained professional helps individuals navigate emotional and psychological challenges with specialist techniques and strategies.
I utilise a range of therapeutic modalities in my practice including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, Psychosynthesis, Person-Centred Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).
During the first session we will establish the issues you want to address and discuss some background information. The number of sessions required varies widely, depending on individual circumstances, but averages around 4-6 sessions. Often this is followed by 1 or 2 follow up sessions to monitor and fine-tune progress.
Counselling sessions last 60 minutes and can be held in my office or online.
All sessions are confidential. The only exception is if there is concern for your safety or the safety of another person.
As a qualified coach and counsellor, I hold a Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences in Counselling, a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology, a Certificate in Counselling and Social Work, and a Diploma in Professional Coaching. I operate under the CDANZ code of ethics and professional standards, however please feel free to discuss any concerns with me.
Cancellations within 24 hours and no-shows will be charged at the normal session rate.
My coaching and counselling services are $150 per hour (including GST) which includes any resources and workbooks. I send out invoices fortnightly that can be paid by bank transfer.
